Mission Statement:

The Department of Inspections is dedicated to the protection of the health, safety and welfare of all citizens through the consistent enforcement of established building practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Inspections has the responsibility of administering the Legal and Regulatory aspects of the Uniform Statewide Building Code*, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation – Division of Soil and Water Conservation regulations for Erosion and Sediment Control, Stormwater Management, Floodplain Management and City Code of Ordinances.

* The USBC also includes all referenced codes.

Staff:
  • Randy Pearce is the Building Official and his responsibilities involves new construction and additions to existing structures, change of building uses and sign regulation.

  • Michael L. Allen  is the Code Enforcement Officers.   Mike's primary responsibilities include enforcement of the Building and Property Maintenance Codes.   

 

  • Darlene Cain  is the clerical support member of our staff.  Her vital contributions allow our team to be versatile and adaptable to the ever-changing dynamic of our fair city.
