Code Red
Code Red Notification System
The CodeRED® system provides City of Emporia officials the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or the entire city. This system gives individuals and businesses the ability to add their own phone numbers directly into the system’s database allowing everyone the ability to control how they receive emergency notifications. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the past year, and those who use a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number. CodeRED allows geographically based delivery, which means street addresses are required to ensure emergency notification calls are received by the proper individuals in a given situation. The system works for cell phones too, but we need to have an associated street address to provide relevant messages. CodeRED® gives those who want to be included an easy and secure method for inputting information.
Those without internet access may call (434) 634-2121- option 6, Monday through Friday, (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) to supply their information over the phone.
CodeRed® Weather Warning
CodeRED® Weather Warning is an opt-in only weather warning product that taps into the National Weather Service’s Storm Based Warnings. CodeRED® Weather Warning automatically alerts affected citizens in the path of severe weather just moments after a warning has been issued. Calls are delivered so quickly they often arrive prior to any other public notifications, usually before television or weather radio broadcasts are aired, which will provide City of Emporia citizens extra time to prepare. Based on the National Weather Service’s polygon methodology, only citizens in the path of projected weather are contacted, not all county citizens. This no-charge update will allow community members to easily identify calls coming through the systems. Message recipient’s Caller ID will read Emergency Communications Network or (866) 419-5000 for CodeRED® calls. And for CodeRED® Weather Warning calls, either Emergency Communications Network or the number (800) 566-9780 will appear on Caller ID displays.
City of Emporia residents are welcome and encouraged to enter their contact information for home, business, and mobile phones so they may be contacted by the system in the event of an emergency. Those who do not register their address and phone number may not be notified with CodeRED® in the case of an emergency. Registration is confidential, free, and easy.
CodeRED® Mobile Alert
CodeRED® Mobile Alert is an app, which is a free download for iPhone and Android subscribers, will allow Emporia City residents, as well as those traveling through the area, to receive community and emergency alerts via notifications to their smartphones. The new platform will serve as one additional tool to help inform the community and visitors about important information that may impact their safety. If you have the app downloaded and are in the affected area of the alert, a notification will be sent through the app to alert you of the issue. Residents with iPhones and Android smartphones are encouraged to download the app to begin receiving notifications from the City of Emporia. The app is available for a free download on the iTunes store and Google Play.
