City Manager, William E. Johnson, III Appointed to Serve on National League of Cities Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee

Emporia, VA — William E. Johnson, III, City Manager, Emporia, Virginia, has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2025 Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee Federal Advocacy Committee. Johnson was elected to a one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities on transportation. The appointment was announced by NLC President Steve Patterson, Mayor of Athens, Ohio.

“Transportation plays a crucial role for a functioning economy by facilitating the movement of goods and people, contributing to public safety through efficient traffic management, and impacts qualify of life by providing access to essential services such as jobs, healthcare, and education,” said Johnson.

As a member of NLC’s Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee, City Manager Johnson will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities, towns and villages before Congress, with the administration and at home in Emporia, Virginia.

“NLC’s federal advocacy committees are vital for uplifting the voices and needs of America’s 19,000 cities, towns, and villages to decision-makers in Washington,” said National League of Cities President Steve Patterson, Mayor of Athens, Ohio. “I am excited to work with City Manager Johnson and look forward to supporting their vision and leadership as they serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee this year and help grow the partnership between local and federal leaders.”

The 2025 NLC Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee will be led by Chair Vanessa Fuentes, Mayor Pro Tem, Austin, TX; Vice Chair Christopher Shaw, Commissioner, City of Dayton, OH; and Vice Chair Riakos Adams, Councilmember At-Large, City of Killeen, TX.
