Animal Control is responsible for the enforcement of state laws and city ordinances regulating the keeping of domestic animals within the City.

The Building/Fire Official provides inspection services in order to protect the health, safety, and property of the residents and businesses by enforcing the provisions of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code in an efficient manner.

City Manager

The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcement of the City’s Property Maintenance Code.

Economic Development

The City of Emporia’s Economic Development mission is to encourage economic growth by strengthening the City’s competitive position and facilitating investments that build capacity, create jobs, generate economic opportunity and improve quality of life.

Emergency Services

The Emergency Services Department is comprised of an Emergency Services Coordinator whose responsibility is to provide direct local assistance during emergency and disaster situations.

Finance

The Finance Department manages the financial affairs of the City of Emporia including the financial planning, budgeting, purchasing, accounting, payroll and reporting of all financial transactions.

Fire Services

The Greensville Volunteer Fire Department serves both Greensville County and the City of Emporia. The volunteer members of the department are highly trained, and stay current on the latest developments in fire fighting and rescue services

Planning & Zoning

Planning and Zoning administers and enforces the standards for land use and development as contained in the City’s Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances.

Public Utilities

The Department of Public Utilities consists of Administration & Billing, Water Treatment Plant, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment Plant and Sewage Collection.

Public Works

The Department of Public Works is responsible for street and storm sewer maintenance, traffic engineering, refuse collection, public buildings and grounds, park maintenance, and other specialized services.

Police Department

The Emporia Police was formed in 1916 and over 107 years later we are a CALEA Advanced Accredited full-service law enforcement agency, as well as a CALEA Accredited Communications Center that is committed to: reducing the incidence of crime and improving the quality of life of all citizens and visitors of the City of Emporia.

Sheriff

The goal of the Sheriff’s Department is to operate in the most efficient manner and in the most economical way as practical, without compromising our services to the Court and the City of Emporia.

Treasurer

The City Treasurer’s office collects, accounts for, and maintains custody of all monies paid to the City.

Voter Registrar

The General Registrar is appointed for a four year term by the Emporia Electoral Board. The Registrar provides all voter registration services for the City of Emporia.
