Operations Division
Captain Dustan Jarratt commands the Operations Division, and he is responsible for the operation and administration of the Operations Division. The Operations Division consists of the Patrol Section, Traffic Enforcement and Criminal Investigations Section.
The Patrol Section is considered the backbone of the Emporia Police Department and consists of two patrol rotations: Rotation A is supervised by Sergeant Wesley Gillam and Sergeant Mark Howell. The remaining members of Rotation A consist of, Officer Andrew Radford, Officer Christopher Ford, Officer Geronimo Moleno, Officer David Turner, Officer Carsen Smith. Sergeant Ned Gregory and Sergeant Ashley Sharp leads Patrol Section B. The remaining members of Rotation B consist of Officer Derrick McKenzie, Officer David Ridout, Officer Alexis Avent, Officer Michelle Brandt and Officer Steven Page. Furthermore, we also utilize Officer Robert Williams part-time.
The Patrol Section provides police coverage for 24 hours, seven days a week. They respond to calls for service, render assistance to people in need, conduct preliminary investigations, and strive to preserve peace while preventing crime. They also enforce the traffic code within the City of Emporia.
Traffic Enforcement and Crash Investigation is led by Lieutenant Glen Garnes and Traffic Enforcement.
The Criminal Investigation Section is led by Lieutenant Cody Simmons. The Detective Division is divided into two sections: General Investigations and Narcotics Investigations. Detective Gregory Howlett and Detective Joey Delancey are currently assigned to the criminal investigations section.
Detectives of the Emporia Police Department are tasked with conducting follow-up investigations and bringing those investigations to a successful conclusion. In addition, to working criminal investigations, detectives may be assigned background investigations on police department applicants. Lieutenant Cody Simmons is a graduate of the highly prestigious Virginia Forensic Science Academy.
